Ty Halpin is a long time NCAA staff member that I used to work with in Indianapolis, Indiana. Ty and I were part of the NCAA Hockey Championship internal team for many years. I used to work with Ty on a variety of NCAA sport rules committees videos. We were part of a team that launched the first instant replay system on the men’s hockey championship in the early 2000’s. We implemented the system at the four regional sites and the Men’s Frozen Four using camera feeds from the television production truck into consumer TIVOs.
My favorite times with Ty were planning an annual summer golf outing called the Karlsson Cup that still is played to this day. We started the golf event in 2001 and even though I don’t travel back to Indianapolis for the outing, I know the event occurs each year. It is single day 36-hole event with a Ryder Cup style format with two teams (Team Blue vs. Team White).
Ty and I connected in July 2018 at the national office where I asked him to tape his #FarrowFridayFocus. He’s had a terrific career in college athletics and is well respected in the industry.
For #FarrowFridayFocus episode 39, I caught up with NCAA staffer Ty Halpin @feartheduck. One of his valuable tips is to reach out to individuals who can give you a different perspective on your career. pic.twitter.com/DtmGOThlkr
